Jack woke up, looking at Sam and sighing. He hadn’t been able to get her and Jake out of his mind. Every night he had spent hours watching her sleep and imagining her beside his brother-in-law. It was all too weird. Sam was his, and he knew it. There was no reason for him to be jealous and yet he was. This particular morning was a bad one though. He had just woken up from a bad dream, sort of like a memory. He was back in the house a week ago, right as he was storming out of the house. As soon as he had gotten into his car he looked up at one of the windows and Jake was standing right there. As he stared, Sam came up behind him, wrapping her arms around his neck and smiling the way she did before she had married Jack. That’s when he woke up, sweating and crying slightly.
As Jack looked at his wife he reached out and touched her hair, running his fingers gently through it. Smiling slightly from the reassurance that she was still there he moved closer towards her, pressing his body against hers and wrapping his arms around her, careful not to wake her up. He put his head gently to hers, his lips right above her ear. He lay like that for a few moments, just feeling her beside him. Things had seemed just a little bit tense since that day, he had been just a little quiet towards Sam and everyone else. He didn’t want things to stay like that. He looked at the clock, ten thirty. He sat up slowly, grabbed his laptop and brought up word, he opened his most recent document. He bolded one section, making it stand out to her.
I've noticed, people, they all have motives.
Different, yet all the same.
I fumble through every word that was spoken,
and I barely knew your name.
I'm tongue-tied, it runs through my blood and my insides;
Some things we can't escape.
But if we try, if we try, we can leave this behind.
It's been a lifetime, a lifetime we waited for.
A simple question, kid, "are you with me or not at all?"
Your eyes wide, always ahead of the curve tide,
Quiet, and confident.
Oh, we stood there, awkward and youthful, we tangled;
A piece of my soul escaped.
Oh, we are restless and tired of sleeping with giants,
A modern mankind with their egos of fire and it seems like
It's been a lifetime, a lifetime we've waited for.
A simple question, kid, "are you with me or not at all?"
Are we wasting time or is it wasting us?
It's been a lifetime waiting for now, now.
Well, you've got to find a way,
you've got to find a way,
you've got to find a way,
you've got to find a way,
you've got to find a way before you fold.
It's been a lifetime, a lifetime I've been waiting for.
A simple question, kid, "are you with me or not at all?"
It's been a lifetime, a lifetime we waited for.
I need an answer, kid, you're either with me or not at all, no, no.
Are we wasting time or is it wasting us?
It's been a lifetime, a lifetime, a lifetime, lifetime, yeah.
Well, you've got to find a way,
you've got to find a way,
you've got to find a way,
you've got to find a way.
Son you've got to find a way,
you've got to find a way,
you've got to find a way before you fold
He left it next to her, saving the settings so it wouldn’t go into sleep mode for another hour.
Then he walked outside, not believing what he was planning to do. He got into his car, taking a split second to think and almost turning around. But he had planned this for too long. He drove to Natalie and Jake’s apartment, stepping out and texting Jake, -I need you to get your ass outside.-
