Natalie was breathing heavily in pain as they pulled up to the hospital. It was 3 A.M. and her water had broken almost an hour ago. Since her mom was working at the hospital late tonight, Jack had to drive. He wasn't in the greatest of moods. It had been about eight months since Natalie had last seen Jake. She hadn't even thought about finding a new guy. The last few months were the worst, she sat in bed crying for days at a time, making Jack bring up her food. It had gotten hard since by each month he was getting more and more famous and he began to be gone a lot, to parties. Sometimes Leah would skip work to make sure Natalie was okay.
That night, Natalie had been laying in her bed looking at Jake's picture again when her mom walked in. Leah sat down next to her and stroked her hair. The past times she had been like this, Leah had told her to get over him. But she decided not to this time. After a few minutes she announced that she was working late that night. She then left, it was around nine. Natalie had turned on her voicemail and listened to his last voicemail as she did very often. She couldn't believe that she didn't forgive him and she knew it was too late now. He had probably found someone else. She held his shirt in her arms, not wearing it anymore just so that she could sleep with it everynight. She listened to her voicemail until her eyes shut and she slept soundly, hands on her large stomach. She woke up a few hours later to pain. It took her a moment to notice. When she did, she gasped. She quickly got up and put on Jake's shirt for some reason before waking up Jack. He immediately got up and dressed. When they were in the car, he called Leah.
When Leah got the phonecall she panicked for a moment. Then she had an idea, she searched through her contacts list, finding Jake's number and texting him -It's Leah. You know, Nat's mom. Well, just in case you care. She's in labor.- Then she ran outside, waiting in the parking lot.
Jack quickly got out of the car, grabbing Natalie's stuff. Natalie began to cry, realizing that her son would forever remind her of Jake. She had decided that he would keep his father's last name, at least until she married again. It just seemed the right thing to do. She got out of the car and hugged her mom, burrying her face in her chest, scared to death.
